Transistor Transistor Logicd by James L Buie in 1961, this is the modified form of Diode Transistor Logi. Most common examples of these digital systems can be Processors , Memory chips etc.  The TTL circuits are fast, having low propagation delay.  Small scale Integration device(SSI) :These are made of several independent gates in a single package.  Power consumption is more in ECL compared to other logic families as each gate continuously draws current even when inactive.  The reason for lower power noise is the large current requirement of ECL is constant and does not depend on the state of the circuit.  TTL Circuits use less power but comparatively slower than ECL circuits.

The number of pins can vary from 14 to thousands as the requirement of the device and also respective to the size of device needed. Supercomputers and signal processors use ECL because of the requirement of High Speed. The basic circuit in each technology is NAND, NOR, NOT.  Ecl is the fastest logic family where propagation delay is very less and Single-Phase Relays Suppliers margin of noise is also very low.  The direct ancestor of Resistor-Transistor logic is Diode-Transistor Logic, which uses a diode for logic functions and a transistor for amplifying functions. Dissipation of power does not depend upon the frequency.

These circuits or chips are welded to the external pins mounted on ceramic containers mostly but plastic containers are also used then it forms an Integrated Circuit.Consumption of power is more in TTL circuits when at rest, but dissipation does not depend on frequency hence as for other CMOS devices the power speed does not increase with clock speed.  Emitter Coupled Logic(ECL)  Highest speed digital circuits are provided by ECL.  These Integrated circuits are therefore divided in 5 types depending on their size and the number of Digital Logic Gates are used. These circuits were mainly used in construction of processors for minicomputers and mainframe processors before the introduction of VLSI devices.  Due to electrostatic discharge TTL circuits are less prone to damage than early CMOS devices. Large Scale Integration Device(LSI): The number of gates in one package can be 200 to several thousands.

Resistor-Transistor Logic was the earliest logic family which used a Resistor and a Transistor as Input and Switching Device respectively.  Digital Logic Family  Classification of IC&39;s can be done by the specific circuit technology they belong to. The pins can be identified using unique numbers printed on the body. Medium Scale Integration Device(MSI): These devices contain 10 to 200 Logic gates in one package. Very Large Scale Integration Device(VLSI): Microcomputer chips are the best example of these kinds of devices which can consist upto thousands of gates in a single package. Overdriven Bipolar Junction Transistors(BJT) are used in ECL circuits. Usually the number of gates in these devices are less than 10 and the Input and Output gates are connected directly to the pins inside the package. These ICs can be very tiny in size. Combination of these basics circuits can form more circuits. These are used to perform elementary functions like adders, half adders, decoders , registers etc.Integrated Circuits. These are the most important components of a Digital system. Ultra Large Scale Integration Device(ULSI): It contains hundreds of thousands of gates in one package. Different combinations of are interconnected to form the required circuit. Both transistors only are used to perform Logic and Amplifying Functions thus named as. Primarily made of silicon semiconductors used to construct complex Digital circuits and known as in common terms.
